Connecting people emotionally through the power of digital storytelling
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

When people especially our rangatahi have a space to dream, lead, and act, some pretty extraordinary moments are possible. They reclaim control of the narrative of their lives and dream loud, fail safely and be resilient.
The process of connecting mind, heart and breath in a safe way is the key to a sense of belonging.
Stories impact our emotions, physical state, our choices and relationships.
Storytelling is not just about media making and media literacy. Across our most vulnerable communities, we are seeing that storytelling is a vital tool for maintaining good mental health and social support as well as a way of community-building. People need the place and space to step into and explore their own inner narratives so that they can physically and mentally exercise key concepts of empathy, collaboration, leadership, and creative problem-solving.
But there are risks in unsafe storytelling. The risk in unlocking the potential then going back to a system that continues to delegitimise or discourage especially marginalised young people, there is a real danger of building-up hopes and unlocking spaces of change within a person, only to have that fragile growth eroded as soon as the daily routine and status quo systems around them come into play again.
We focus and facilitate safe storytelling in a way that inspires kaitiakitanga, manaakitanga and most importantly whanaungatanga.
